What this quote means that it depends on the people you decide to be friends with who you are going to get the influence from. For example, if your friends are people who want to go to Harvard and graduate and have a future, well it is inevitable and it is your destiny to go to Harvard and have a future. But if you have friends that like to smoke weed, smoke cigarettes, and drink alcohol than your destiny is to get arrested and not go anywhere in life so that is why it is important to find people who have a bright future in front of them.

What Mr. Monson was trying to say is that if your friends offer you to do drugs, smoke weed, snort cocaine, or drink alcohol. You need to be brave and say no then walk away. If you were to take any of those things you would destroy your morals and disappoint your family and, you could get in a lot of trouble with the police and face a lot of time in prison, And for what just a little fun? Choosing to do the wrong is not worth it and it should never be one of your options. This quote is very important because Mr. Monson shows us that standing up for what is right, Is not a bad thing.
