“Character is higher than intellect” 
What Ralph is trying to say is that just because you are smart doesn't make you into a nice person. An example of that is if you are a smart person that can invent things for peace and harmony but you decide to be evil than you are a dumb person with a smart brain. Sometimes being kind hearted is better than being smart because you don't think about the wrong things the only thing you think of is off doing what is better for others.
